This Rugby Union lesson plan focuses on scrummaging – including understanding the different front row positions within the scrum, feeding the scrum, the infringements that lead to scrums, and binding in the scrum.
The lesson plan will help PE teachers coach:
- why a scrum is awarded
- the responsibilities of the front row forwards in the scrum
- how the scrum half and hooker combine to feed the ball
- creating an overlap to outnumber the opposition when the ball is released from the scrum
- how to scrummage safely and position the body correctly
This lesson plan also includes teaching points, cross-curricular links, assessment and evaluation of performance, and links to theoretical PE aspects.
